My mother-in-law has been
in town on island a week now. I made a to-do/to-see list before she got here and we are slowly working our way through it. Well, us being girls and all, we decided to go shopping yesterday. I took her to American Village. It’s a pretty popular spot here. There is shopping, places that sell touristy things, restaurants, bars, a bowling alley, and even a couple spas.
We started off shopping. We had this one along for entertainment.
Her goal of the day was to ask a gazillion times if she could ride the ferris wheel. We gave in of course. The ferris wheel is huge and it’s in constant motion. It’s pretty slow moving, but you have to jump in since it stops for no one. Both my kids have ridden it a ton of times, but it never gets old. Then we headed to a little place called Doctor Fish Therapy.
I’ve heard about the fish pedicures and some of my friends have done it, so I really wanted to do it too! We paid 500 yen ($6.50) each for 5 minutes. You know how when you go to a zoo or some place that sells fish food and the fish will swarm when they see you come near because they know they will get fed? That’s how it was when I put my feet in. As soon as they saw my feet headed towards the water, they swarmed and attacked. At first it was just weird. It tickled, but it kinda felt like little shocks too. They went after whatever was in the water, your feet, your legs, whatever. After I sat there for a little bit, I got used to it and it wasn’t weird at all anymore. My mother-in-law did it too and we tried to get Little Missy to put her feet in. We told her the fish wanted to give her kisses and she almost fell for it.
I think my feet may have been a teeny bit softer, but more than 5 minutes is needed to really do anything. Next, we headed to the hair salon. They had a sign out front for 310 yen ($4) extensions. Little Missy picked out the color (pink of course) and sat down to be worked on. This child cracks me up. She didn’t move, but sat there like she was an old pro at it and completely bored. It only took a couple minutes and she now loves her pink hair! He even took the time to curl it so it would match the rest of her hair.
It was a fun day. I don’t know why I don’t do stuff like this with friends more often.
