We were constantly doing things in Okinawa. A lot of times, we would spend weekends exploring without spending any more money than what we paid for snacks at Family Mart. I want to keep that up, but I’ve had a hard time finding things to do that are affordable. After a lot of internet searching the other night, I managed to find a good number of free things, as well as some neat stuff that wasn’t too expensive.
Saturday morning, we loaded up the car with books, music, lunch, and water and headed out. I wasn’t sure what to expect, so I didn’t tell the kids where we were going. We headed to the desert, to the middle of nowhere, and Borrego Springs.
There are 129 metal sculptures located in Borrego Springs. “Dennis Avery, land owner of Galleta Meadows Estates envisioned the idea of adding ‘free standing art’ to his property with original steel welded sculptures created by ‘Perris Jurassic Park’ owner/artist/welder Ricardo Breceda based in Perris, California.” When I say metal sculptures, I mean life size sculptures found on the side of the road, with nothing around them.
Look at the detail! Those eyelashes!
There was tons of horses. They were scattered and in different positions to make them look life-like.
This guy just made me think of Tremors. I love that movie!
We found a good number of them, but after looking it up online again to write this post, I realized there were a lot we didn’t see.
