A friend of mine from Okinawa lives in San Diego now. We’ve made plans to get together and it has never worked out, but we finally got together this weekend! They are PCSing again soon, so I’m glad we fit it in.
We met up at the San Diego Children’s Discovery Museum in Escondido. None of the kids seemed to be to sure if they remembered each other, it has been a year and half, but they had no problem playing together. The museum was on the small side and geared towards younger kids (maybe 3-5 years old), but everyone still had a great time. They also offered half price admission for military, so it was pretty inexpensive.
When we pulled into the parking lot, the kids noticed a park across the street, so we headed over there after a few too many meltdowns. I’m a huge fan of fun playgrounds, but I haven’t been able to find a whole lot here (if you know of any, please let me know!), unfortunately for my kids. The Grape Day Park has a playground consisting of a bunch of grapes that is a slide and grape vines to climb on! The park has a lot more to see too, including giant chess and checker boards, an old train, and a military tribute.
After a stop for lunch, we drove a little farther south to the Kit Carson Park. This place was huge! We found a few different playgrounds, as well as all the sports stuff. I wanted to see the sculptures at Queen Califia’s Magical Circle, but it was closed for remodeling. The kids played pretty hard, I showed them that I could still hang on the monkey bars by my knees like a nine year old and we finally had to leave after Little Missy kept having meltdowns. Poor girl had a bad day and just kept hurting herself. It was a fun day, one of the more fun ones we’ve had in a while. It’s so nice to be able to see old friends and pick up right where we left off!
