It’s finally spring. For anyone still in school, this means the school year is getting closer and closer to ending. For those in high school it means graduation and prom! Yes, prom! Do you remember yours? Did you go?
At my high school, juniors and seniors were allowed to the prom, but sophomores had to be invited. The act in itself was fun. We spent the whole day getting ready, mostly by going to get updo’s, then meeting up with our friends and going out to dinner before we actually went to the dance itself. We didn’t get fancy, no one had limos and our prom was always in the high school gym, but it was still one of those things you had to go to.
Have you heard about proms these days? Schools are canceling them because kids don’t want to go. They would rather sit at home and snapchat each other than go to prom. What is wrong with these kids?!?!?! Have they never seen Never Been Kissed? Prom is the ultimate. Cheesy themes and decorations, high expectations, and nothing terrible exciting, at least for me anyways, but I would be kicking myself now if I hadn’t gone. The theme for my junior prom was My Heart Will Go On. It was 1998. I have no excuse beyond that.
My junior year, I had a boyfriend. We went with a few other friends. I LOVED my dress. Loved it. It’s still hanging in my closet. I actually wore it to an Army ball in 2002, so I got my money out of it.
My senior year, I didn’t have a boyfriend, but convinced a guy I worked with to go as my date. He was a nice guy and we went with friends. This was 15 years ago, so no judging. Except my eyebrows, you can judge those.
I just really don’t understand why kids don’t want to go to prom. Sure, it’s fun to sit around the house, messing around on Instagram all night, by myself, but getting dressed up and hanging out with real people is way better. You can still take all the selfies you want while at the prom, kids. Just look at all the gorgeous dresses that are out there now. Places like JenJenHouse have a huge selection of dresses to choose from. If I got to do it all over again, I’d pick something like this strapless chiffon dress (http://www.jenjenhouse.com/Prom-Dresses-c18/).
The dress can make or break your night. Prom is a special night. Think about all the movies that revolve around it. I could write an entire post about my favorite prom related movies.
