The other week, when we went to get Callie, we decided to make a weekend of it. It was a 4+ hour drive from our house and I’d never been to the area, so it was a definite overnight stay. The only part of Central California I’ve seen is the boring farmland part you see from I-5. Trust me, it’s really boring. This time, we were hitting the coast. I convinced the husband to take the scenic 101 route instead of the 5. Once we got through Los Angeles and all that surrounds it, we had gorgeous views.
We picked Callie up in Paso Robles, which was an adorable town in itself. We stayed the night in Morro Bay though. Our hotel was a block from the water. We walked down and found seals, otters, and a beach full of sand dollars. Oddly enough with all the sea shells and sea glass I have, I’ve never found a sand dollar, let alone fifty of them. The kids filled my hands up until I couldn’t hold anymore. The beach was nice, not to crowded, and the water surprisingly wasn’t that cold. We found plenty of seafood restaurants, but went with a German/Fish and Chips place that had some awesome German potato salad. My grandma’s will always be the best, but this was pretty dang good.
