If you’ve got pallets laying around, these are super easy to make. Promise. I’ve got mine on my front porch along with the pallet star I made. I wrapped some lights around them and boom! Instant decorations.
What You Need:
Sander or sandpaper
The pallets I used were 40″ x 40″ and had 4 vertical boards holding the top and bottom boards together, so I got two trees out of one pallet. Depending on the size of your pallet and how it’s laid out, you may only get one tree.
Lay the pallet down flat and use something as an edge to mark where you want to cut. You’ll want one of the vertical boards to be your tree trunk, so the cut will want to start on one side of it, and go out from there. Angle your line so it ends at the other end of the pallet, but before the next vertical board. See my handy diagram.
Once you have cut through both sides of your tree, the back boards will still be attached to the vertical board. Easiest thing is to cut them off, right along the vertical board. You can pry them off if you want, but cutting them is a heck of a time saver. I used a scrap board, nailed to the bottom for support. Since my pallet was so big, I flipped it and got a tree out of the other half. It’s the same process again. The second tree was a bit shorter due to how the first was cut. My handy helper is marking the lines for second tree in the picture.
For one tree, I cut the bottom board off, so there was a bit of ‘truck’ showing. Give them a light sanding (or don’t, I won’t judge, but at least brush off the sawdust) and paint them if you want. And there you have it! Super easy DIY trees.
