What better way to celebrate a birthday than to have a ball?
Our Marine Corps birthday ball was Friday night. It was a great night! Last year, the ball was the whole detachment – everyone stationed at Ft. Leonard Wood. It was a lot of people and we had a great time, but this year just seemed a little more real to me. Coming from the Army side, the Marines and their balls (and I do mean that in both senses!) are different. They are (in my opinion) proud of what they do and more aware of their history and the fact that they are a special group of people. The Army balls were a good time, but they don’t even begin to compare to the Marine Corps balls.
We had a great night! I finally got a picture with Christina from Our Okinawa Life. She is so freaking cute!
Dinner was wonderful. We had an appetizer and a salad. Impressive, I know! It’s normally just the salad and dinner. Hubby and I both had the chicken.
The cake was impressive (even if it is styrofoam), but what they served us wasn’t. We all got excited when we saw the trays they carried out, cake with cherries and chocolate syrup. That was apparently only for the head tables. We were one table behind, so we just got to watch them eat it. Our cake was just plain pieces.
All in all, it was a great night! I love nights out with my husband (they are extremely rare), and this was definitely a good night with friends!
