I’m not a huge sports nut, but I love baseball. I went to my first Cardinals game when I was 13. When I was young and single, my friends and I went to lots of games or at least as many as we could when we lived 2 hours away. Little Man went to a few games when he was 2/3 years old. I always kept up with the team and the season and regularly watched the games on TV….when I lived in Missouri and they played them all.
Then I met my would be husband, who happens to me the BIGGEST Dodgers fan. I’m not a hater. I’ll go to Dodger games with him and I’ll cheer for the Dodgers, unless they are playing my Cardinals.
The next game we got to go to was in L.A, Dodgers vs. the Angels. The Angels of Anaheim. The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim is a stupid name, but I digress. I wore a Dodger shirt that day and I was totally find with it. We also happened to be with 5 Angels fans.
We had a few years without much baseball, but thankfully the Japanese love baseball. We went to a preseason game in Okinawa between the Tokyo Giants and the Hiroshima Carp.
On a visit to San Francisco a few months ago, we made a point to see the Dodgers again because they were playing the Giants. The husband has a lot of Giants fans in his family, so it was me, him, and Little Missy with 5 Giants fans. Every game seems to involve a rivalry. Good thing we won that one!
So that brings us to today. The Cardinals and Dodgers are playing for the National League championship and to see who goes to the World Series. As of Monday night when I wrote this, they were 2-1 in favor of the Cardinals. We’ve got a pretty good rivalry going on at our house. The husband says I’m not a true fan because I couldn’t tell him who played second base off the top of my head (it’s Matt Carpenter), but I blame that on the fact that I moved with him, for his job, to a foreign country for three years, where they did not show Cardinals games on TV, so it’s totally not my fault that I didn’t know that, it’s my husbands. Right? Are you with me? There’s still 3 games left, so we’ll see who wins this! You better believe I’ll rub it in good if I win!!!
